Within the wilds of Zambezi National Park on the banks of the Zambezi River and close to the iconic Victoria Falls, Victoria Falls River Lodge is a luxury safari lodge providing guests a bucket list experience in this stunning region of Zimbabwe.
Arriving at Victoria Falls River Lodge
Victoria Falls River Lodge offers different typologies of exclusive accommodation, from tented suites to treehouses or luxury villas. I had the opportunity to stay in a Treehouse Starberd suite, which was one of the most amazing and unique places I’ve ever stayed.
All the six treehouse suites available are located in the private Kandahar island at Zambezi National Park. Accessible only by boat, the lodge’s exclusive location ensures a sense of tranquility and seclusion, making it an ideal escape.
Arriving at the island is unforgettable, as you start seeing the treehouses from the boat, standing out in the vegetation and facing the river.
Spectacular Treehouse Experience
As soon as I arrived, I was welcomed by the attentive and friendly staff. The lodge provides a top-notch service. Every guest is treated to personalized attention and warm hospitality for the whole stay, to make our stay really unique.
The accommodations are nothing short of spectacular, with stunning luxury treehouses elevated above the riverbanks. Accessible via raised walkways, the treehouses are perfectly positioned and meticulously designed to blend seamlessly into nature, while offering panoramic views of the Zambezi River and the surrounding wilderness.
The indoor decoration is exquisite. In the outdoors, my treehouse had a terrace facing the river with a plunge pool, and a rooftop with a starbed where it was possible to stargazing at night.
All-inclusive Activities and Dining
Victoria Falls River Lodge offers an all-inclusive stay, including all the meals and a variety of activities like a cruise in the river, a safari or a visit to the magnificent Victoria Falls nearby.
Dining at Victoria Falls River Lodge is a culinary delight, perfectly mixing the delicious traditional local gastronomy with tasty international cuisine. The meals are served in an open-air area, offering stunning views to the river.
Sunset Cruises
The lodge is the starting point for many adventures in the surrounding wilderness. I joined a sunset cruise in Zambezi River and a safari in Zambezi National Park. Both were incredible experiences.
Cruising the iconic Zambezi River and admiring the surrounding nature, seeing hippos playfully emerging from the waters, and crocodiles lazily basking on the banks was an unforgettable moment.
During the cruise our skipper shared very interesting stories about the region. The golden glow of the sunset over the water was also absolutely magical.
Safari Adventures
I also loved the sunset safari in Zambezi National Park. For several hours, our knowledgeable guide drove us in the 4X4 through the park looking for some wildlife spotting and we were successful! I saw some giraffes crossing the road just in front of the car, as well as some impalas grazing peacefully, buffalos moving through the twilights and some different bird species.
At the end of the day, we stopped at the banks of the river to admire the backdrop of a perfect setting sun in spectacular colours.
Mainland Lodge and Spa
While staying in Kandahar Island, guests can also commute by boat and visit the other areas of the lodge in the mainland, where other accommodation typologies are located.
I spent some time by the beautifully decorated lobby and reception area, and I was lucky to see some warthogs grazing around. I also had the opportunity to relax at the spa, with beautiful river views.
I had a perfect stay at Victoria Falls River Lodge and I will never forget some very unique moments, like waking up at the treehouse and seeing from the terrace the sun rising over Zambezi River.
